A remote reserve in the Northern Cape is seeking a reliable and enthusiastic Cook to join their small kitchen team. This is an incredible opportunity for someone who enjoys preparing wholesome meals, working closely with a supportive team, and embracing a quieter, off-grid lifestyle.

Description

  • Working alongside the existing cook, you will prepare breakfast, lunch, and dinner for approximately 20–25 staff and guests each day.
  • Responsibilities
  • Prepare and serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
  • Assist with menu planning and meal preparation.
  • Manage stock using a digital inventory system.
  • Place stock orders and maintain accurate inventory records.
  • Assist with basic food costing and stock tracking using Microsoft Excel.
  • Maintain excellent hygiene, food safety, and kitchen cleanliness.
  • Support the smooth operation of a remote, self-sufficient kitchen.

Minimum Requirements

  • Has previous cooking experience within a lodge, hospitality, catering, or similar high-volume environment.
  • Can confidently prepare quality meals for groups on a daily basis.
  • Understands budgeting, portion control, and minimising food waste.
  • Is computer literate, with basic Excel skills and the willingness to learn new systems.
  • Is proactive, organised, and able to work independently.
  • Has a positive attitude and enjoys working within a close-knit team.
  • Is comfortable taking direction and working collaboratively within a small team.
  • Is reliable, punctual, and dependable.
  • Speaks fluent English (Afrikaans would be advantageous).
  • Is willing to live and work in a remote location.

 

What's on Offer?

  • Salary: R8,000 – R12,000 per month (depending on experience).
  • Private accommodation with shared ablution facilities.
  • Sundays off, plus one additional weekday off.
  • Permanent opportunity following a successful probation period.
  • No vehicle required, as staff accommodation is within walking distance of the kitchen.
