Our client is seeking an accomplished General Manager: Hospitality to lead the hospitality division of a prestigious luxury wine estate in Stellenbosch. This is a senior strategic and operational leadership opportunity for a commercially astute hospitality professional with strong food and beverage, financial, guest experience and destination hospitality expertise.
The successful candidate will take overall accountability for Hospitality as a business unit, balancing exceptional guest experiences with revenue growth, cost management, operational excellence and sustainable profitability.
Description
Reporting to the Estate Manager, you will lead the hospitality strategy across premium food and beverage operations, visitor experiences, events, wine tourism and guest-facing services.
You will manage budgets, forecasts, revenue targets, labour and F&B costs, operating expenses, pricing, margins and profitability, using commercial and operational data to identify opportunities and implement corrective action where required.
Working closely with the Head Chef and Hospitality Manager, you will provide strategic direction to HOD-level leaders while ensuring strong execution, accountability and team development.
A significant component of the position involves F&B commercial leadership, including food cost, stock management, menu pricing, labour utilisation and working collaboratively with culinary leadership on menu concepts and the evolution of the overall food offering.
You will also drive improvements in guest journeys, SOPs, operating efficiencies, tourism partnerships, events and revenue-generating opportunities while protecting the standards and reputation of this premium destination.
Minimum Requirements
- Relevant Hospitality, Business, Marketing, Economics or related qualification, or equivalent experience
- 5–10 years' hospitality industry experience
- Minimum 3 years in an Assistant General Manager, General Manager or comparable senior leadership position
- Premium wine estate, restaurant, tourism or destination hospitality experience preferred
- Strong food and beverage operational and financial expertise
- Proven budget management, forecasting and revenue management experience
- Strong understanding of food cost, labour cost, pricing, margins and profitability
- Experience managing HODs and developing high-performing teams
- Strong commercial and strategic thinking
- Excellent hospitality systems, POS, Excel and operational reporting capabilities
- Hands-on leadership style with the ability to operate effectively during peak service periods
- Excellent stakeholder, guest and team communication skills
- Wine tourism or premium wine hospitality experience advantageous
- WSET, sommelier, tourism or food service certification advantageous
- Proficient in English and Afrikaans; additional languages advantageous
