Our client, a well-established and highly reputable Big 5, 5* Game Lodge in the Greater Makalali Private Game Reserve near Hoedspruit, Limpopo, is seeking an experienced Head Ranger to lead their guiding team. This is an exceptional opportunity for a strong leader who is passionate about conservation, guest experience, and guiding excellence in a pristine bush environment.

Description

As the Head Ranger, you will oversee all aspects of the guiding department, ensuring exceptional guest experiences through expertly delivered game drives, walking safaris, and bush activities. You will lead a team of guides and trackers, drive the training and development program, ensure compliance with FGASA and reserve standards, and be a key point of contact for both guests and internal teams.

 

The ideal candidate is a passionate field guide who is also an organised and level-headed manager with a deep understanding of the bush, strong leadership capabilities, and the ability to inspire and mentor others. You will work closely with lodge management to maintain the property’s stellar reputation for wildlife experiences.

 

Package: R18,000 per month + live-in accommodation + meals
Start date: ASAP

Minimum Requirements

• Minimum FGASA Level 2 (or Level 1 working toward Level 2)
• Valid DEAT & PDP certification
• Advanced Rifle Handling and First Aid Level 1
• Excellent track record as a Field Guide with previous experience in a senior or Head Ranger position
• Strong leadership and communication skills
• Mentorship experience and a passion for guide development
• Hands-on approach with a willingness to lead by example
• Knowledge of Makalali region or similar reserves a strong advantage
