Our client, a privately owned remote hospitality estate set along the Orange River in South Africa’s Northern Cape, is seeking a Homestead & Gardens Caretaker role ideally suited to a committed couple. This is a rare opportunity to live and work on a remote, organic farming estate while supporting a small, quality-driven hospitality operation.

Description

This hands-on role supports the daily upkeep of two guest residences on the estate, ensuring both homes and surrounding gardens are consistently maintained to a high standard. The position is best suited to a couple who work well together and enjoy rural living.

 

One partner will take primary responsibility for gardens and irrigation, including lawns, flower beds, and vegetable gardens, and assist with general property upkeep. The second partner will support guest readiness and light hospitality duties, including basic food preparation where required. A separate cleaning team manages cleaning, allowing focus on presentation, maintenance, and guest comfort.

 

Duties include checking properties before guest arrivals and after departures, welcoming guests when needed, and working closely with the General Manager to ensure smooth day-to-day operations. A private on-site cottage is provided, separate from other staff accommodation.

 

Salary on offer: R15,000 – R20,000 per month, depending on experience.

Minimum Requirements

• Previous hospitality experience (at least one partner)
• Strong gardening and irrigation skills (essential)
• Good spoken English
• Cooking ability advantageous but not essential
• Comfortable working and living in a remote environment
