Summary

An established and busy Small Animal Hospital in the Johannesburg area is seeking a skilled and experienced Kennel Assistant to join its dedicated team.

 

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who understands the demands of a fast-paced veterinary environment and takes pride in providing compassionate, attentive care to hospitalised patients. The successful candidate will be reliable, energetic and confident working with animals, while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and patient care.

 

The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a similar kennel or veterinary hospital role, a genuine love for animals and the ability to remain calm and organised in a busy environment. A strong work ethic, attention to detail and willingness to work as part of a team are essential.

Description

  • Providing attentive daily care to hospitalised and boarding animals
  • Feeding patients according to veterinary instructions
  • Cleaning and maintaining kennels, runs and treatment areas to a high standard
  • Assisting with the safe handling and restraint of animals
  • Monitoring patients and reporting any changes in behaviour or condition
  • Assisting the veterinary and nursing team with daily hospital duties
  • Administering basic treatments or medication when appropriately trained and instructed
  • Maintaining a clean, hygienic and organised hospital environment
  • Handling animals with patience, confidence and compassion
  • Assisting with receiving, moving and discharging patients
  • Ensuring hospital protocols and infection-control standards are consistently followed

Minimum Requirements

  • Previous expereince in a similar role essential
  • Fluent in English
