Our client is looking for an experienced, practical and self-motivated Maintenance Manager to oversee maintenance across its hospitality, marine and land-based operations in Botswana and Namibia.
Based in Kasane, the successful candidate will take responsibility for the upkeep of a luxury hotel, houseboat, charter boats, vehicles and supporting infrastructure. This is a hands-on senior position for someone who can diagnose problems, carry out repairs
where possible and manage the broader maintenance function without needing constant supervision.

 

Regular travel between Botswana and Namibia will form part of the role.

Contract: The employer is ideally looking for a minimum five-year commitment
Citizenship: Preference will be given to suitably qualified Botswana or Namibian citizens
Work permit: A Botswana work permit application will be supported where required

 

Key Responsibilities

• General Maintenance Management Oversee all maintenance requirements across the hotel, houseboat, charter
• boats, vehicles and associated land-based operations.
• Ensure that buildings, equipment, machinery and operating systems are maintained to a consistently high standard.
• Respond promptly to breakdowns and technical problems, particularly where these may affect guests or operations.
• Inspect facilities and equipment regularly and address potential problems before they result in operational disruption.

 

Preventative Maintenance

• Develop and manage preventative maintenance schedules for all buildings, systems, vehicles, vessels and equipment.
• Maintain accurate service histories, maintenance records and replacement schedules.
• Plan maintenance work around operational needs to minimise disruption.
• Identify ageing equipment and recommend repairs, upgrades or replacement where necessary.

 

Electrical, Plumbing and Mechanical Systems

• Manage the maintenance of electrical, plumbing, mechanical and air-conditioning systems across all operating sites.
• Diagnose faults and carry out repairs within the scope of your experience and qualifications.
• Appoint and coordinate qualified external specialists when required.
• Ensure that all work is completed safely and to an acceptable standard.

 

Marine and Engine Maintenance

• Oversee the servicing, maintenance and repair of the houseboat, charter boat and outboard engines operating in Botswana and Namibia.
• Monitor the condition and performance of vessels and marine equipment.
• Implement servicing and replacement plans for electric and fuel-injected boat motors.
• Liaise with suppliers and technicians regarding servicing, specialist repairs and replacement parts.

Fleet Management

• Oversee the maintenance and servicing of company vehicles and boats.
• Implement daily and weekly inspection checklists.
• Attend to breakdowns and make sure repairs are completed as quickly as possible.
• Conduct regular inspections and testing to keep vehicles and vessels safe, reliable and operational.
• Train team members to complete routine inspections and basic maintenance correctly.

 

Solar, Battery and Generator Systems

• Monitor and maintain solar installations, battery banks, inverters and backup generators.
• Ensure that power systems operate reliably and efficiently.
• Troubleshoot technical problems and escalate specialist issues when necessary.
• Identify practical ways to improve energy efficiency and system performance.

 

Water and Waste Systems

• Oversee freshwater systems, pumps, filtration equipment and water storage.
• Manage preventative maintenance for water, sewage and greywater systems.
• Respond to leaks, pressure problems, odours and other system-related concerns.
• Ensure that hygiene, safety and environmental standards are maintained.

 

Team Leadership and Training

• Lead and support maintenance staff across the different operating sites.
• Allocate daily and weekly tasks and follow up to ensure they have been completed properly.
• Train hotel staff and boat crews in correct equipment use, routine checks and basic troubleshooting.
• Encourage a practical, preventative approach to maintenance throughout the operation.

 

Health, Safety and Compliance

• Ensure that all maintenance work complies with the relevant health and safety requirements.
• Identify risks and implement corrective action.
• Maintain safe working conditions for employees, contractors and guests.
• Ensure that tools, machinery and technical systems are used correctly and safely.

 

Procurement and Stock Control

• Manage the stock of tools, spare parts and maintenance supplies.
• Source materials and replacement parts within the required timeframes.
• Maintain suitable stock levels for essential items, particularly those that may be difficult to source locally.
• Work within agreed budgets while maintaining the required quality standards.

 

Contractor and Supplier Management

• Liaise with external contractors, technicians and suppliers.
• Obtain quotations and coordinate specialist repairs and servicing.
• Supervise work carried out by third parties.
• Check the quality of completed work and hold service providers accountable where necessary.

 

Reporting

• Provide senior management with regular updates on maintenance work, breakdowns, costs and outstanding priorities.
• Keep accurate records of inspections, servicing, repairs and equipment replacement.
• Prepare maintenance plans and budget recommendations.
• Communicate clearly regarding urgent technical risks or operational concerns.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Requirements

• At least five years’ experience in maintenance, preferably within a hotel, lodge, resort or similar hospitality environment.
• A minimum of two to three years’ experience supervising a maintenance team.
• Strong practical knowledge of electrical, plumbing, mechanical and air- conditioning systems.
• Experience maintaining and repairing vehicles, boats and engines.
• A sound understanding of preventative maintenance and asset management.
• The ability to diagnose faults and complete practical repairs.
• Experience managing contractors, suppliers and external technicians.
• Good knowledge of health, safety and compliance requirements.
• Strong planning, organisational and problem-solving skills.
• The ability to work independently across multiple operating sites.
• A valid driver’s licence.
• Willingness and ability to travel regularly between Botswana and Namibia.
• Flexibility to respond to urgent breakdowns outside normal working hours when necessary.

 

Advantageous

• A recognised technical qualification or trade certification in electrical, mechanical, HVAC or a related field.
• Experience working in remote lodges, marine operations or multi-site hospitality businesses.
• Hands-on knowledge of solar power, generators, inverters and battery systems.
• Experience with water treatment, pumps, sewage and waste systems.
• Knowledge of maintenance planning software, reporting and record-keeping systems.
• Experience training and developing junior maintenance staff.
