Summary

A well-established specialist Ophthalmology practice in the Sandton area is seeking a Junior Medical Receptionist / Practice Administrator to join a small, professional team. This role is ideally suited to a detail-oriented and organised individual with 1–2 years’ experience in a medical reception environment, who is comfortable managing patient bookings, diary coordination, theatre lists, and medical aid pre-authorisations (with a strong focus on Discovery Health).  The successful candidate will be responsible for patient communication, billing and coding using systems such as Vericlaim or similar, and following up on patient accounts, while maintaining a calm and professional approach under pressure.  Strong computer skills, excellent telephone etiquette, and reliable transport are essential.  An interest in ophthalmology, exposure to surgical scheduling (particularly cataracts), and willingness to be cross-trained into basic clinical pre-testing will be advantageous.

The position offers an excellent salary, depending on experience.

Working hours:  Monday - Friday 08:00 - 16:00

Description

Minimum Requirements

  • Ideally 2–3 years' experience in a medical or specialist practice reception role
  • Working knowledge of medical billing software (Vericlaim, GoodX, Elixir, or Solumed)
  • Familiarity with medical scheme processes - particularly Discovery Health
  • Strong computer literacy
  • Excellent telephone manner and professional written communication
  • Own reliable transport
  • Openness to being cross-trained into basic clinical pre-testing over time

 

Advantageous

  • Prior experience in an ophthalmology, optometry, or surgical specialist practice
  • Cataract surgical scheduling experience
  • Ophthalmic Assistant training
