Our client, a well-established and highly regarded hospitality property in the heart of Zululand, is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to support the General Manager in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the hotel. This is an excellent opportunity for a driven hospitality professional looking to advance towards a General Manager role within a respected independent hospitality business.

Description

Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Operations Manager will play a pivotal role in ensuring exceptional guest experiences, operational efficiency, and service excellence across all departments.

 

The successful candidate will assist in overseeing Front Office, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, Guest Services, Maintenance, Wellness, and Safari Operations while driving operational standards and ensuring seamless communication between departments.

 

This hands-on leadership role requires a strong hospitality operator who is passionate about guest satisfaction, team development, and continuous improvement. The position also includes involvement in safari and guest experiences, sustainability initiatives, community engagement programmes, and conservation-focused projects.

 

Working closely with departmental managers, the Operations Manager will help cultivate a positive workplace culture, support training and development initiatives, and ensure the property consistently delivers memorable guest experiences that exceed expectations.

Minimum Requirements

  • Previous management experience within a quality 4-star or 5-star hotel, lodge, resort, or hospitality operation
  • Strong understanding of hotel operations and guest experience management
  • Proven ability to lead multiple operational departments
  • Excellent leadership, organisational, and communication skills
  • Experience with service standards, staff development, and performance management
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Passion for hospitality, responsible tourism, and guest satisfaction
  • Commercial awareness with an understanding of operational performance
  • Valid driver's licence
  • Experience within safari lodges, boutique hotels, or experiential hospitality environments will be advantageous

Package

  • Salary: R25,000 – R30,000 per month (exceptional candidates may be considered above this range)
  • Live-in position with accommodation, water, and electricity provided
  • 7% company contribution to Provident Fund (after probation)
  • 50% company contribution towards Medical Aid (after probation)
  • Permanent position
  • Based in Zululand, KwaZulu-Natal
