About the role
Our client is seeking a hardworking and reliable Kitchen Porter to join the culinary team at an award-winning luxury hospitality establishment in Stellenbosch.
This is a practical, hands-on position supporting the kitchen team with cleaning, washing, general preparation and maintaining excellent hygiene standards.
The successful candidate must be energetic, organised and comfortable working in a busy professional kitchen.
- Wash pots, pans, crockery, cutlery and kitchen utensils.
- Maintain clean and hygienic kitchen preparation areas.
- Clean work surfaces, floors, walls and kitchen equipment.
- Ensure kitchen areas are ready for daily food preparation and service.
- Assist chefs with basic food preparation under supervision.
- Receive and unload kitchen equipment and food deliveries.
- Assist with organising and maintaining storerooms.
- Follow established cleaning schedules and kitchen procedures.
- Maintain food safety and hygiene standards.
- Ensure cleaning equipment and materials are used correctly.
- Support chefs and other kitchen staff during busy service periods.
- Assist with general kitchen duties as required.
- Maintain a positive and cooperative working environment.
What they're looking for
- Preferably 1–2 years' previous experience in a restaurant or professional kitchen environment.
- Previous Kitchen Porter, Sculler, Kitchen Assistant or Steward experience advantageous.
- Good understanding of basic kitchen hygiene.
- Physically fit and comfortable with practical work.
- Able to work quickly and efficiently.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Reliable, punctual and hardworking.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Positive and enthusiastic attitude.
- Able to follow instructions and established procedures.
- Comfortable working under pressure.
- Flexible to work shifts, weekends and public holidays.
