About the role

Our client is seeking a driven and self-motivated Agricultural Sales Representative to grow its customer base and laboratory-testing volumes across the Western Cape. The successful candidate will focus on securing new customers and expanding water-testing and Maximum Residue Limit (MRL) testing services. This field-based sales role is suited to someone who understands the agricultural environment, enjoys working directly with growers and farmers, and can develop new business independently with minimal supervision.

• Identify and secure new agricultural customers across the Western Cape.
• Grow laboratory sample volumes from new and existing customers.
• Promote the company’s agricultural laboratory-testing services.
• Develop and drive water-testing and MRL-testing services.
• Conduct regular farm visits and face-to-face customer meetings.
• Build strong relationships with growers, farmers, producers, packhouses and other agricultural stakeholders.
• Identify, source and follow up on new sales leads.
• Develop a thorough understanding of the company’s testing services and laboratory processes.
• Clearly explain testing services and their value to prospective customers.
• Independently manage a sales pipeline, client portfolio and travel schedule.
• Maintain regular contact with customers and provide professional after-sales support.
• Work closely with the laboratory and technical teams.
• Identify opportunities to increase sample volumes.
• Maintain accurate customer, sales and activity records.

What they're looking for

• Previous sales, business development or customer-facing experience is required.
• Agricultural knowledge or industry experience is highly advantageous.
• Experience within irrigation, water, crop production, agricultural inputs, laboratory services or a related technical field would be beneficial.
• Understanding of the Western Cape agricultural market is advantageous.
• Existing relationships within the agricultural sector would be beneficial but are not essential.
• Exposure to vegetables, citrus, grapes, water testing or MRL testing would be advantageous.
• An Agriculture, Agronomy, Soil Science, Plant Science, Horticulture or related qualification is advantageous but not essential.
• Proven ability to identify prospects and develop new business.
• Comfortable approaching and visiting growers, farmers and agricultural businesses.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Willing to complete an initial laboratory-based training period.
• Strong communication, presentation, negotiation and relationship-building skills.
• Valid driver’s licence and own reliable vehicle are essential.
• Must preferably reside in Stellenbosch, Somerset West or the immediate surrounding area.
• Willing and able to travel regularly throughout the Western Cape.
