About the role

Our client is seeking an experienced and hands-on Assistant General Manager to join an established luxury boutique hotel in the Plettenberg Bay area. Reporting directly to the Estate General Manager, this is a senior operational position for a hospitality professional with strong all-round hotel experience, excellent guest engagement skills and the confidence to lead across departments. The successful candidate will be a visible, hands-on presence within the operation, supporting the Estate General Manager in maintaining exceptional standards across the property.

You will assist with the day-to-day management of the hotel, working closely with departmental heads and operational teams to ensure consistently high standards of service and guest satisfaction.

Key responsibilities include:

• Support the Estate General Manager with daily hotel operations
• Provide hands-on leadership across Front Office, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, Guest Relations and general operations
• Conduct regular property and departmental inspections
• Maintain exceptional luxury hospitality and service standards
• Support, guide and hold HODs and operational teams accountable
• Handle escalated guest requests and resolve operational challenges
• Ensure SOPs and company procedures are consistently followed
• Coordinate effectively between departments
• Assist with staff performance, training and operational discipline
• Monitor stock controls, operational costs and departmental efficiencies
• Support VIP stays, functions, events and high-demand periods
• Perform Duty Management responsibilities as required
• Identify operational issues and ensure they are followed through to resolution
• Assume additional operational responsibility in the Estate General Manager's absence

What they're looking for

• Proven experience as an Assistant General Manager, Operations Manager or similar senior hotel professional
• Previous experience within a 4-star or 5-star luxury hotel, boutique hotel or comparable hospitality environment
• Strong all-round hotel operational knowledge
• Excellent understanding of luxury guest service
• Strong leadership and people-management ability
• Confident working with and supporting departmental heads
• Hands-on management style with a visible operational presence
• Excellent guest relations and problem-solving skills
• Strong administrative and organisational ability
• Commercial awareness and understanding of operational cost controls
• Able to work independently and make sound decisions
• Professional, articulate and well presented
• Excellent written and spoken English
• Flexible to work hospitality hours, including weekends and public holidays
• Must be willing to be based in the Plettenberg Bay area

Salary & Benefits

Salary: R25,000 – R28,000 per month + Live-in
