About the role

Our client is seeking an experienced, professional and highly discreet Estate Management Couple to live on-site and take responsibility for a luxury private estate in Stellenbosch. The immediate priority is hospitality and private cheffing. One partner must be a confident and accomplished cook/chef who can prepare healthy, wholesome, five-star meals for the Chairman while he is in residence, cater for occasional private guests and assist with hosting and service. The couple will ultimately take broader responsibility for the smooth running of the estate, including household hospitality, property upkeep, staff supervision, administration, security and general estate operations. This position would suit a well-travelled, hands-on couple accustomed to working with private principals and maintaining exceptional standards with complete discretion.

The Immediate Priority – Private Chef & Hospitality

One partner will take the lead on the household's culinary and hospitality requirements, including:

• Prepare high-quality, healthy and wholesome meals when the Chairman is in residence
• Plan varied weekly menus
• Cater for occasional private guests and small-scale entertaining
• Assist with table setting, serving and clearing when required
• Manage grocery shopping, fresh produce sourcing and provisioning
• Maintain an immaculate and organised kitchen
• Manage food stocks and household supplies
• Create a warm, welcoming and caring home environment
• Anticipate the Chairman's and guests' requirements
• Maintain exceptional standards of presentation and service

The role also includes driving the Chairman between Stellenbosch and Cape Town, generally approximately twice per week, so confident driving ability is essential.

Broader Estate Management Responsibilities

• As a couple, you will also oversee the wider day-to-day running of the estate, including:
• Coordinate general property and household operations
• Oversee buildings, grounds, gardens and facilities
• Manage and coordinate contractors, suppliers and service providers
• Conduct regular property inspections
• Coordinate repairs and preventative maintenance
• Oversee estate vehicles, equipment and machinery
• Supervise household, gardening, security and maintenance staff
• Manage staff schedules, leave and timesheets
• Assist with estate correspondence, filing and record keeping
• Monitor expenses, petty cash, stock and inventory
• Ensure appropriate security procedures are followed
• Assist with emergency preparedness and general estate safety
• Ensure the property is consistently prepared for the Chairman and private guests

The client's brief envisages the couple acting as custodians of the estate, overseeing its staff, maintenance and day-to-day operations while ensuring it remains welcoming and operationally efficient.

What they're looking for

• Proven experience as an Estate Management Couple, Lodge Management Couple, Private Household Couple or similar
• One partner must have strong private chef/cooking and hospitality capabilities
• Experience preparing high-quality, healthy meals for private principals and guests strongly preferred
• Strong household and guest-service standards
• Estate, property, lodge or luxury hospitality management experience
• Practical understanding of property maintenance and upkeep
• Experience supervising household or estate employees
• Good administration, budgeting and organisational ability
• Comfortable managing suppliers, contractors and service providers
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Both partners must be hands-on and willing to assist wherever required
• Valid driver's licences for both partners
• PDP advantageous
• Confident driving between Stellenbosch and Cape Town
• Highly discreet, trustworthy and professional
• Calm, resourceful and solutions driven
• Flexible regarding evenings, weekends and public holidays when required
• Comfortable living and working on a private estate

Above all, the client requires a couple who understand privacy and discretion and can become trusted custodians of a private home.
