About the role

Our client, a prestigious luxury wine estate in Stellenbosch, is seeking an experienced and hands-on HR & Payroll Generalist to join their Human Resources team. This is a varied role for an HR professional who is equally comfortable working with people, employee relations and recruitment as they are with payroll, statutory compliance and reporting. Working closely with senior HR and Finance stakeholders, you will help deliver an accurate, professional and responsive HR service across a dynamic luxury hospitality environment.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Manage fortnightly and monthly payroll cycles
• Process overtime, tips, commission, leave, deductions, appointments, promotions and terminations
• Complete payroll reconciliations, control accounts, salary journals and payroll reporting
• Manage statutory requirements including SARS, UIF and COIDA
• Coordinate end-to-end recruitment, including advertising, shortlisting, interviews, references and offers
• Manage onboarding and employee documentation
• Support managers with employee relations, disciplinary processes, probation and performance management
• Maintain accurate employee, payroll, ESS and pension fund records
• Coordinate training, skills development, employee wellness and engagement initiatives
• Prepare HR and payroll reports
• Assist with audits, statutory requirements and HR projects
• Provide professional HR and payroll support to employees and managers
• Maintain strict confidentiality and data integrity

What they're looking for

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Industrial Psychology, Business Management or a related field
• 3–5 years' HR Generalist experience with hands-on payroll responsibility
• Payroll qualification or solid practical payroll experience
• Sound knowledge of South African labour legislation and the BCEA
• Good working knowledge of PAYE, UIF and COIDA
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills
• Experience with SAGE 300, Pastel Evolution and/or ESS advantageous
• Previous hospitality or service-industry experience advantageous
• SDF certification advantageous
• Strong numerical and problem-solving ability
• Excellent attention to detail
• Able to communicate effectively in English and Afrikaans
• Professional, approachable and service oriented
• Highly organised and able to manage multiple deadlines
• Honest, discreet and able to handle confidential information
• Proactive and comfortable working independently
