About the role
We are looking for a Data Platform & Observability Engineer to design, implement, maintain and support data and observability platforms across technologies such as Elastic, Splunk and Cribl. The role will be responsible for onboarding data sources, building and managing ingestion pipelines, transforming and shaping data, developing analytics and dashboards, and troubleshooting platform issues. You will also work directly with customers to understand their requirements and deliver effective solutions across security, compliance and observability use cases. This is a Johannesburg (Sandton) -based hybrid role, requiring a minimum of three days per week on-site, with additional customer-site attendance depending on business requirements.
- Design, implement and maintain data platform and observability solutions using Elastic, Splunk and Cribl.
- Provide ongoing administration, technical support and maintenance of the platforms.
- Onboard and integrate new data sources into the relevant platforms.
- Design and implement data ingestion pipelines.
- Transform, enrich and shape data to meet business and technical requirements.
- Develop and maintain searches, dashboards, alerts and reports.
- Troubleshoot and remediate platform and system issues.
- Implement data use cases supporting security, compliance and observability requirements.
- Engage directly with customers to understand requirements and deliver appropriate technical solutions.
- Provide technical input and guidance across the supported data products.
- Work within established change-management processes and corporate/customer policies when implementing changes.
- Continuously develop technical knowledge and remain current with relevant platform and data technologies.

What they're looking for
Education & Experience
- IT Degree, National IT Diploma or relevant technical qualification preferred but not mandatory.
- Relevant vendor certifications in Elastic, Splunk and/or related technologies would be advantageous.
- 3–5 years' relevant experience in data engineering, data platforms, observability or a related technical environment.
- 2–5 years' experience with Elastic.
- 2–5 years' experience with Splunk. (Advantageous)
- 1–2 years' experience with Cribl. (Advantageous)
- 1–2 years' experience with AWS data services, such as Athena, Glue and S3.
- Practical hands-on experience is important; certifications without corresponding practical experience are not sufficient.
