About the role

We are a leading provider of diesel engine remanufacturing, field service support, and mining equipment maintenance throughout Southern Africa. We are looking for a qualified, experienced, and self-motivated Diesel Mechanic / Field Service Technician to join our Potchefstroom team. The successful candidate will provide field service support to our mining and industrial customers, carrying out repairs, servicing, diagnostics, installations, and preventative maintenance while ensuring maximum equipment availability and exceptional customer service.

• Perform repairs, servicing, maintenance and breakdown support on customer sites.
• Diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, drivetrains and related equipment.
• Remove and install engines and machine components.
• Conduct pre-use inspections to ensure equipment complies with customer procedures and safety standards.
• Perform preventative maintenance to minimize machine downtime.
• Complete detailed service reports, machine inspection reports and job documentation accurately.
• Maintain effective communication with supervisors, customers and fellow technicians.
• Ensure all work complies with the Mine Health and Safety Act, Codes of Practice (COPs) and customer procedures.
• Maintain excellent housekeeping and environmental standards.
• Plan jobs effectively and ensure availability of parts, consumables, tools and fuel.
• Represent VME Group professionally on all customer sites.
• Be available for standby duties, overtime and after-hours breakdowns when operationally required.

What they're looking for

• Qualified Red Seal Diesel Mechanic
• Minimum 3 years' post-trade experience in mining, construction or heavy equipment maintenance.
• Previous Field Service experience.
• Valid driver's license.
• Fluent in English and Afrikaans (read, write and speak).

• Engine rebuilds and overhauls
• Hydraulic diagnostics and repairs
• Basic auto-electrical fault finding
