About the role
South African citizens only. Permanent vacancy. Full-time onsite in Alberton (This is NOT hybrid or remote work). Travelling: Must be prepared to do ad-hoc travelling between Alberton and Troyeville (JHB City). A minimum of 3 year’s HR administration experience is required. Must have a valid driver’s license and own car. Experience in the Telecoms/ISP/Fibre industry would be advantageous. Clean ITC/credit record and no criminal record. Reference: HR Assistant (TB) Salary package: CTC market-related and negotiable (depending on the candidate’s skills, experience & qualifications). First 3 months of probation period includes only the basic salary. After the 3-month probation period compulsory benefits kick in namely Discovery Key Core Plus medical aid (50% employee contribution & 50% employer contribution) and the Group Life Cover which is 100% paid by the employer.
Travelling involved:

Main job:
- Telecoms Company is recruiting an HR Assistant to provide comprehensive HR administration and operational support across the employee lifecycle, ensuring accurate HR records, efficient recruitment and onboarding, effective employee support, and compliance with company policies and South African employment legislation.
- The role will report into the HR Manager and will support the HR/People team and line managers in a fast-paced telecommunications environment, where confidentiality, accuracy, responsiveness and the ability to manage multiple priorities are essential.
Responsibilities:
HR administration:
- Maintain accurate and confidential employee personnel files and HR records.
- Process employee movements including appointments, transfers, promotions, salary changes and terminations.
- Prepare employment contracts, confirmation letters, variation letters and other HR documentation.
- Maintain and update employee information on the HRIS.
- Conduct regular employee-data audits.
- Respond to routine employee HR queries and escalate complex matters appropriately.
- Maintain HR filing and document-management systems.
Recruitment and onboarding:
- Coordinate recruitment activities from vacancy approval through to appointment.
- Advertise vacancies and assist with CV screening and shortlisting.
- Schedule interviews and coordinate assessments.
- Conduct reference and pre-employment checks where required.
- Prepare offer and employment documentation.
- Coordinate onboarding and induction for new employees.
- Ensure all required documentation is completed before employees commence.
- Track probation periods and follow up with managers on probation reviews.
Payroll and benefits support:
- Provide accurate monthly payroll inputs and supporting documentation.
- Assist with employee changes affecting payroll.
- Liaise with payroll regarding queries relating to salaries, deductions, leave and benefits.
- Maintain records relating to medical aid, retirement funds and other employee benefits.
- Assist with payroll and HR reconciliations where required.
Employee relations support:
- Provide first-line administrative support on employee-relations matters.
- Assist with disciplinary and grievance processes.
- Prepare correspondence and documentation for hearings and investigations.
- Maintain confidential ER records.
- Ensure processes are aligned with company policy and applicable South African labour legislation.
- Escalate complex disciplinary, grievance or legal matters to the HR Manager/Employee Relations specialist.
HR reporting and analytics:
- Assist with the preparation of monthly HR reports covering headcount, turnover, recruitment, absenteeism, leave and employee movements.
- Maintain HR dashboards and trackers.
- Provide accurate workforce information to management.
- Assist with HR audits and reporting requirements.
- Identify discrepancies in HR data and coordinate corrective action.
Compliance and statutory support:
- Assist with compliance relating to the BCEA, LRA, Employment Equity Act, Skills Development Act and POPIA.
- Support Employment Equity reporting and administration.
- Assist with WSP/ATR and Skills Development activities where applicable.
- Maintain documentation required for B-BBEE and HR audits.
- Ensure employee records and processes comply with internal policies and applicable legislation.
Training and development:
- Coordinate training logistics and attendance.
- Maintain training records and skills matrices.
- Liaise with training providers.
- Assist with WSP/ATR administration.
- Track mandatory and compliance-related training.

Requirements:
- Matric/Senior Certificate.
- Qualification or certification relevant to HR Management, Industrial Psychology, Business Administration or a related field will be a huge advantage.
- A minimum of 3 year’s HR administration experience is required.
- Good knowledge of South African employment legislation.
- Experience with recruitment, onboarding and employee records.
- Exposure to payroll administration.
- Exposure to employee relations/disciplinary processes.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- High level of confidentiality and attention to detail.
Systems experience required:
- Microsoft Office Suite.
- Must have good MS Excel skills.
- HR Information Systems (Pace HR etc.).
- Payroll systems (Sage, VIP Payroll, PaySpace etc.)
