About the role

South African citizens only. Permanent vacancy. Full-time onsite in Alberton (This is not hybrid or remote work). A minimum of 5 years’ Senior Bookkeeping (up to Trial Balance) experience is required. Experience working within Telecommunications, Cellular, Engineering, Construction or Technical environments will be highly advantageous. Must have a valid driver’s license and own car. Clean ITC/credit record and no criminal record. Reference: Senior Bookkeeper (TB). Salary package: CTC market-related and negotiable (depending on the candidate’s skills, experience & qualifications). First 3 months of probation period includes only the basic salary. After the 3-month probation period compulsory benefits kick in namely Discovery Key Core Plus medical aid (50% employee contribution & 50% employer contribution) and the Group Life Cover which is 100% paid by the employer.

Main job functions:

  • Leading Company in the ICT sector is expanding rapidly and seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Bookkeeper with 5 years’ minimum relevant experience to manage the day-to-day financial operations of the growing company.
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate accounting records, overseeing transactional finance, managing creditors and debtors, supervising payroll administration, producing monthly management accounts, and ensuring all financial information is complete and accurate for review by the company's external Chartered Accountant (CA(SA).
  • The Senior Bookkeeper will be responsible for producing management accounts up to Trial Balance.
  • The Senior Bookkeeper will play a critical role in maintaining financial integrity, cash flow management, statutory compliance, and supporting management with timely financial reporting.
  • This is a hands-on role requiring excellent bookkeeping, analytical, and organisational skills.
  • Manage two staff (1 x Debtors Clerk and 1 x Creditors Clerk).

General Bookkeeping:

Maintain the company's accounting records to Trial Balance - responsibilities include:

  • General ledger maintenance, journal processing and bank reconciliations.
  • Credit card reconciliations, petty cash management and cashbook processing.
  • Intercompany reconciliations (where applicable).
  • Balance sheet reconciliations and monthly ledger reconciliations.

Accounts Payable (Creditors) and Accounts Receivable (Debtors):

  • Assist the Creditors and Debtors department on an ad-hoc basis with any of the following: supplier invoices, purchase orders, reconciliations, payment preparation, age analysis, payment terms, resolving supplier queries, monthly payment runs, customer invoicing, receipt and collections, credit control, bad debt reporting etc.

Cash Flow Management:

  • Assist management with daily cash monitoring, weekly cash flow forecasts, payment scheduling, working capital management & banking administration.

Payroll Administration:

  • Assist with payroll administration which includes payroll input preparation, leave reconciliation, overtime calculations, commission calculations, employee deductions, salary journals, payroll reconciliations and work closely with HR to ensure payroll accuracy.

VAT Administration:

  • Responsible for VAT reconciliations, VAT schedules, reviewing VAT transactions, preparing VAT information for submission and maintaining supporting documentation.
  • VAT submissions will be reviewed and authorised by the external CA(SA).

Asset Register:

  • Maintain fixed asset records including asset additions, disposals, transfers, depreciation schedules and asset verification.

Inventory Control – where applicable:

  • Stock adjustments and inventory valuation support.
  • Inventory reconciliations, cycle count reconciliation and warehouse stock reconciliation.

Month-end close:

  • Complete monthly financial close including accruals, pre-payments, general journals, balance sheet reconciliations, trial balance preparation and supporting schedules.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts for review by the external CA(SA).

Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with VAT legislation, PAYE, UIF, SDL, company policies and internal financial controls.

Internal Controls (maintain sound financial controls by ensuring):

  • Segregation of duties and approval procedures.
  • Accurate financial documentation, fraud prevention controls and proper filing systems.

Management Reporting:

  • Profit & loss, balance sheet, trial balance and cash flow summary.
  • Debtors age analysis, creditors age analysis and budget vs actual.
  • Expense analysis and revenue reporting.

Audit Preparation (prepare all supporting documentation required for):

  • Annual financial statements, external audit and tax submissions.
  • SARS queries and bank funding requests.

Qualifications & experience required:

  • Matric/Senior Certificate.
  • National Diploma in Accounting/Bookkeeping.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ Senior Bookkeeping (up to Trial Balance) experience is required.

Advantageous:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/BCom Accounting/Advanced Diploma in Accounting.
  • Professional membership (SAIPA/SAIBA/ICB National Diploma in Financial Accounting/ICB Certified Senior Bookkeeper/CIMA).

Systems experience required:

  • Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Accounting Systems (Acumatica preferred, Dokka preferred, Sage).
  • HR Information Systems (Pace HR etc.)
  • Payroll systems (Sage, VIP Payroll, PaySpace etc.)
